Executive Director
Irene Koch has been the executive director and head of Brooklyn Health Information Exchange (BHIX) since January 2007. In that capacity she oversees and manages the activities of BHIX regional health information exchange (RHIO). Her responsibilities include the coordination of technical, financial, policy, regulatory, administrative and legal aspects of building complex projects. Ms. Koch has a particular expertise on privacy and governance issues related to electronic exchange of community-wide health information. She currently serves on the Policy and Operations Council of the New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) which is a state-wide effort. Previously Ms. Koch served as Associate General Counsel at Maimonides Medical Center, Assistant Counsel with New York State Department of Health, Division of Legal Affairs and as an Associate at Willkie Farr & Gallagher.
The Brooklyn Health Information Exchange (BHIX) is part of an innovative state-wide and nation-wide effort to transform and improve our healthcare system through the use of secure and interoperable health information technology.
BHIX was recently recognized by the Smithsonian Computerworld Honors Program with a 2009 Laureate Award for its work in advancing health information technology and exchange toward improving clinical care and quality outcomes. It is also the recipient of three New York State Department of Health grant awards for Health Care Efficiency and Affordability Law for New Yorkers (HEAL NY).
